Yesterday, we cut the ribbon on the Kahlert Café at Richcroft.
At first glance, it looks like a café. But it’s much more than that.
It’s a place where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are working, learning, contributing, and building independence in a real-world environment.
My sister is served by Richcroft, so I’ve seen firsthand what the right support and the right expectations can make possible.
And yesterday, we got to see it in action.
The individuals supported by Richcroft were so excited they cheered during the ceremony. They couldn’t wait to serve guests, and they did. You could feel how much it meant.
This café represents a shift. From programs to purpose. From participation to contribution. From limits to potential.
It took vision, partnership, and a belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to be part of something real.
Grateful to the Maryland Department of Disabilities for joining us to mark the occasion.
Proud to serve as Chair of the Advisory Board, and even more proud of what this represents for the people Richcroft serves.
Special thanks to The Kahlert Foundation for this amazing gift!!
This is what progress looks like.
